The Hershey Company engaged Alberici as part of a design-build team to provide construction services to retrofit an existing bread plant into a new confectionary plant in Monterrey, Mexico.
Retrofitting the former bread plant into a fully functional confectionary plant introduced substantial complexity, demanding detailed planning and adaptability throughout the project stages. Ensuring the harmonious integration of the new confectionary setup with the pre-existing infrastructure required innovative logistical and operational solutions.

Challenge met
Alberici utilized design-build delivery and comprehensive preconstruction services to efficiently manage the project. Through value engineering, the team identified cost-saving ideas that resulted in significant savings of over $3.5 million for Hershey. To meet the aggressive 18-month schedule, Alberici remained flexible and adaptive during each phase of construction, accommodating major scope changes that occurred after the project had started, including the addition of a sizable mezzanine. The team expertly handled the specification, purchase, and installation of utility equipment, such as chillers, boilers, and air handling units, as well as infrastructure support systems like the water treatment and wastewater treatment plants. Alberici also ensured the coordination and delivery of all international shipments, contributing to the successful completion of the project.
