500,000 SFThe challenge
Since 1984, Alberici has led construction for each model changeover at the Belvidere Assembly Plant. For the launch of the Dodge Dart in 2011, we built a new 500,000 SF body shop and outfitted it with a 25,000 SF metrology lab and 600 robots. Five years later, our team returned to refit the plant for the new 2017 Jeep Cherokee. Our scope included beautification of the site and disassembly of robots and equipment to be shipped for retrofitting and upgrades.

Challenge met
Alberici’s scalable self-perform capabilities ensured close control of schedule during fixed outages. Close collaboration with the client and the design team, adherence to sustainable construction techniques and the ecological performance of the 500,000 SF body shop helped it achieve LEED Gold certification.
During the 2017 Jeep Cherokee launch, Alberici mobilized 600 craft workers and managed installation of general-assembly and body-shop equipment packages. We successfully performed demolition and refurbished the south body shop while installing new equipment and meeting an aggressive and inflexible 14-week closure.
