Constellation Brands’ (CBI) Obregon brewery expansion near Ciudad Obregon, Mexico, presented a multifaceted challenge in transforming the facility into a modern, automated brewery. The extensive 100,000-square-meter expansion included constructing new buildings, warehouses, packaging facilities, and logistics structures, necessitating intricate coordination of various components such as rail lines, water and wastewater plants, utilities, and site services. Managing the construction of both hot block and cold block sections within the new brewery building, incorporating packaging equipment, and executing utility work for boilers and compressed air systems required precise planning. Additionally, the project aimed to convert significant greenfield space to improved infrastructure and maintain operations during the COVID-19 pandemic, emphasizing health and safety protocols.

Gilbane Alberici Construcciones Mexico (GACM) effectively managed the complex brewery expansion, installing over 76,000 cubic meters of concrete, 12,000 tons of steel, and 70+ miles of pipes. The 40-month duration included the construction of a new brewery building, a 60,000-square-meter packaging hall, and utility structures. The team converted 125,000 square meters of greenfield to essential infrastructure, implementing meticulous planning for paved and gravel roads, parking areas, and rail tracks. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the project continued operations, providing employment for approximately 4,200 craftworkers. Strict health and safety protocols ensured worker well-being, and the project’s economic impact extended to uplifting the local community through increased commercial activity, solidifying its role as a vital regional employer and economic engine.
