Building DuPont Pioneer’s largest soybean production and processing plant

Building up production capacity to meet increased demand
To meet increased regional demand for soybean seed products, DuPont Pioneer selected Alberici to serve as construction manager for their Commercial and Parent Soybean Seed Facility. Located in New Madrid, Missouri, the new facility is DuPont Pioneer’s largest soybean processing and production plant in the world.

Self-performance of major scopes of work
The facility consists of a sampling/receiving area and truck scale, bulk storage bins, warehouse, packaging system, maintenance shop, laboratory, and administration building. Alberici self-performed erection of the bulk storage bins and 2,400 tons of structural steel. In addition, the team installed all process equipment and more than 2,700 lineal feet of conveyors.

Built to withstand Mother Nature
Due to the close proximity of the new facility to the New Madrid Fault, Alberici worked with structural engineer, KJWW, to install a number of seismic reinforcements. Through a value engineering process during preconstruction, the Alberici team devised a solution consisting of numerous aggregate piers and special uplift steel connections that add tremendous stability to the site’s foundation.

Just in time for harvest
Despite unusually heavy rains during the course of construction, Alberici was able to complete the project in time to meet the immovable soybean harvest deadline. This was due to close collaboration with DuPont Pioneer’s project team and more than 20 subcontractors and suppliers. Following this project’s tremendous success, DuPont Pioneer awarded Alberici additional projects at the New Madrid site and in Hermiston, Oregon.
