The R.C. Harris Water Treatment Plant plays a critical role in the Toronto Water supply network. The plant draws raw water from Lake Ontario, and its existing zebra mussel control infrastructure required replacement to improve raw water pre-chlorination, sampling, and monitoring. The main process constraints were that the existing systems had to be operational, and no interruptions are caused to plant operations. To facilitate plant operations and cause minimum disruption to public access, various construction activities such as Microtunneling, hand mining, jet grouting, and offshore marine works were performed to install the new zebra mussel control and raw water sampling system.

Challenge met
Alberici’s work supports upgrades to prechlorination, zebra mussel control, raw water sampling, and lake current monitoring systems at the R.C. Harris Water Treatment Plant. The project includes extensive process, structural, electrical, and SCADA improvements designed to improve operational reliability, protect raw water infrastructure, and support environmental stewardship. The scope required coordination around existing plant operations and marine conditions tied to the plant raw water intake system.
