The expansion would add more than 9,000 SF of Medical Oncology Infusion space, 4,500 SF of laboratory and lab waiting, and 2,000 SF of support areas. Challenge met
Alberici’s construction team built two additions to the existing cancer center building, a north addition and south addition, both one-story, steel-and-masonry structures with a slab on grade. As a result of this project, the SIH Cancer Institute increased its number of exam rooms from 14 to 22; physician offices from five to 14; infusion stations from 20 to 42; private infusion stations from three to five, four with private restrooms; laboratory blood-draw stations from two to six; registration carrels from two to four. A new secondary waiting area added 21 chairs and new public lavatories. Existing waiting areas were expanded and new lab space includes an on-site bloodbank.
Site work added 111 parking spaces, an ambulance entrance and expanded the existing stormwater retention pond.
The entire project was finished two months ahead of schedule and within the original budget.
