Renovation of Lock & Dam 25, a historic structure on the National Register of Historic Places, posed several challenges due to its age, complex infrastructure, and the need to maintain uninterrupted waterway transportation. The project required major repairs and upgrades to multiple gates, a service bridge, and associated equipment, all while addressing the challenges of working on a waterway affected by fluctuating water levels, river traffic and adverse weather conditions.

Challenge met
Alberici navigated Lock & Dam 25’s intricate renovation challenges by adeptly coordinating under an indefinite delivery-indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). Over five years, we strategically managed mobilizations and demobilizations based on federal funds. To surmount the dynamic river environment, Alberici conducted structural gate repairs on a floating plant despite fluctuating water levels and river traffic. Our mastery extended to the intricate gate-coating process, meticulously adhering to specific ambient conditions and recoating intervals. Amid record flooding and river traffic disruptions, Alberici’s vigilant project management upheld the timeline. Alberici’s 10-acre Mississippi River port facility proved pivotal, allowing efficient prefabrication and pre-assembly of components. Recognizing Alberici’s achievements, USACE awarded Alberici a similar rehabilitation contract at Lock & Dam 24, solidifying our stature in waterway infrastructure rehabilitation.
