Kings Bay Project Receives Build America Award 

Build America Awards honors Associated General Contractor members who build America’s most impressive and successful construction projects

The Kings Bay Dry Dock Recapitalization Project has been awarded the 2024 Construction Risk Build America Award in the Federal & Heavy Renovation Category.  

The Build America Awards honors Associated General Contractor members who build America’s most impressive and successful construction projects, ranging from federal and heavy divisions to highways and transportation.  

The Kings Bay Dry Dock Recapitalization Project stands as one the most mission-critical renovation projects in the modern history of the United States Navy, being one of the largest investments in naval infrastructure by the Department of Defense since World War II.   

Renovating the Trident Refit Facility, which is North America’s largest covered dry dock, required precise planning for security due to its proximity to an active Department of Defense installation. Adherence to naval standards and strict security measures was essential, as was completing the extensive renovation without disrupting the adjacent shipyard and submarine operations.
