City of Bonner Springs Unveils Legacy Water Treatment Plant
BONNER SPRINGS, Kan. — Construction is complete for a new water treatment plant serving Bonner Springs, with the joint venture design-build team of Burns & McDonnell and CAS Constructors, a subsidiary of Alberici, delivering improved efficiency, resiliency, capacity and water quality.
“This significant project positions our city for future growth by giving us a reliable water supply,” says Tom Stephens, mayor of Bonner Springs. “We are proud to make Bonner Springs an even better place to live and work.”
The new plant replaces one that has been in service for more than six decades. It will be capable of producing 2 million gallons of water per day, enough to meet today’s demands during the height of summer while also providing capacity as the community continues to expand. The plant will provide softened water for users in Bonner Springs, thanks to a new membrane treatment system.
“The Burns & McDonnell/CAS Constructors team worked collaboratively throughout the project using the design-build method,” said Dana Hinderliter, project manager at Burns & McDonnell. “Because of this approach, our team provided real-time cost and schedule updates throughout the design development, allowing us to reduce the impact of extreme market volatility by adjusting project scope.”
“Thank you to the City of Bonner Springs for trusting our joint venture team to deliver the largest capital improvements project to-date for Bonner Springs,” said Travis Stryker, president at CAS Constructors. “The city’s staff has been a great partner and essential to making this successful project a reality.”
Additionally, the team coordinated the State Revolving Funds application process to provide the necessary funds and principal forgiveness of close to $2.5 million to afford the project improvements.
