Zebra Mussel Control System Upgrades Receive Toronto’s Best of Best Award 

Best of the Best Awards, presented by the Toronto Construction Association highlight exemplary project achievements and special contributions to the industry

We are pleased to announce that the Zebra Mussel Control Systems Upgrades at R.L. Clark and F.J. Horgan Water Treatment Plants have been awarded the prestigious 2023 Best of the Best Project Achievement Award by the Toronto Construction Association. We extend our sincere appreciation to all individuals involved in contributing to the success of this project, including the City of Toronto. 

The City of Toronto selected Alberici to upgrade the outdated Zebra Mussel Control Systems at R.L. Clark and F.J. Horgan Water Treatment Plants. Our diverse scope of work included the replacement of existing pre-chlorination, zebra mussel control, and water sampling systems at both facilities. Additionally, we installed a new Lake Current Monitoring System at R.L. Clark to provide continuous, year-round data to the city. 

Additionally, a feature of the project included specialized diving operations within the plants. Rigorous protocols were established, including coordination with the Ministry of Labor, disassembling fencing, and delineating fall protection measures. Decompression chambers were also brought on-site to facilitate deeper dives.

The Best of the Best Awards, presented by the Toronto Construction Association highlight exemplary project achievements and special contributions to the industry. The Project Achievement Award specifically recognizes member companies that show professional excellence and set new standards in the field.
