Alberici led sweeping upgrades starting with power infrastructure to improve passenger and staff experiences and keep pace with rising passenger levels at Toronto Pearson Airport. The existing system performed adequately but had been pieced together over the years with systems and maintenance parts from a variety of manufacturers. The project involved integrating innovative baggage screening technology, including explosive detection systems, to enhance outbound baggage screening and throughput. The installation required seamless integration with existing conveyor systems and screening areas that needed to remain fully operational throughout construction. This complex task involved relocating numerous conveyor line interferences, electrical systems, mechanical components, fire protection piping, communication systems, security measures, air handling units, and light fixtures. Additionally, the installation had to be meticulously orchestrated in high-security areas on multiple levels of the airport facility, necessitating careful planning and adaptability to accommodate critical changes while meeting strict schedule milestones.

Challenge met
Alberici installed a cutting-edge Level 3 Hold Baggage Screening System, seamlessly integrating it into existing infrastructure to maintain outbound baggage screening during
construction.
The team relocated complex systems around existing conveyors and screening areas while ensuring full functionality. This involved moving hundreds of conveyor line interferences,
electrical systems, mechanical components, fire protection piping, communication systems, security measures, air handling units, and light fixtures.
Alberici self-performed the conveyor-belt system installation in high-security areas on multiple levels of the airport facility. Meticulous planning and adaptability to changes ensured crucial schedule milestones were met.
By successfully implementing the Level 3 Hold Baggage Screening System, Alberici significantly improved security at Canada’s busiest airport. The innovative technology and careful coordination enhanced safety for passengers and staff during baggage screening processes.
