250,000The challenge
Due to aging infrastructure and population growth, Ontario was in critical need of an additional power supply to serve the growing demand in the Greater Toronto Area. The Goreway Power Station project aimed to address this demand by building a new 875-megawatt, natural gas-fueled power plant, the first major generation facility built in Ontario in more than 25 years.
The complex project posed significant challenges, including a congested site with limited laydown space and skilled labor shortages in welding and rigging. Extensive mechanical, civil, electrical, and piping installations also required careful sequencing to keep the schedule on track.

Challenge met
As part of a joint venture, Alberici executed critical components of the project with precision and innovation. The team installed the massive Air Cooled Condenser, welding 20,000 linear feet of tube bundles and 12,000 linear feet of exhaust duct. To maintain schedule certainty, major ductwork was prefabricated offsite and shipped in modules, reducing site congestion and accelerating installation.
The joint venture self-performed key scopes, including 16,000 cubic yards of foundations, 26,000 linear feet of duct banks, and 75,000 linear feet of piping, ranging from underground utilities to chrome alloy systems. By leveraging strategic planning, prefabrication, and a highly coordinated workforce, Alberici delivered the complex project safely and efficiently, providing reliable power to one of Canada’s fastest-growing regions.
