CITYPARK Receives IDEAS² 2024 Award for Steel Construction

Prestigious award recognizes outstanding innovation and creativity in engineering and architectural design with structural steel

CITYPARK in St. Louis has been honored with the prestigious IDEAS² Award for Excellence in Architecture by the American Institute of Steel Construction. The IDEAS² Awards recognize projects that exemplify outstanding innovation and creativity in engineering and architectural design with structural steel. CITYPARK was celebrated for its remarkable achievement in creating “a breathtakingly light structure giving soccer fans a thrilling game-day experience.”

Structural steel was pivotal in the architectural vision, providing an open, transparent structure with efficient lateral and gravity systems. Thanks to our steel fabricators, Hillsdale Fabricators, the fabrication, and erection processes were streamlined, ensuring the project’s timely completion.

Despite challenges threatened by the pandemic, like supply chain and cost disruptions, our initiative-taking approach helped to overcome risks. Early steel mill orders, facilitated by our steel fabrication unit, combatted price fluctuations and shortages, resulting in cost savings of over $750,000.

CITYPARK also prioritizes sustainability, utilizing 100% recycled structural steel and components designed for easy disassembly and reassembly, minimizing the overall environmental impact.

As a seamless fusion of structural engineering and architectural design, CITYPARK embodies its urban surroundings while fostering inclusivity within the neighborhood. Its interconnected, open spaces complement the stadium’s design, establishing Energizer Park as a landmark within St. Louis.

Managed by Alberici in a joint venture with Mortenson and L. Keeley, Energizer Park stands as a monument to the skill and dedication of the project team. The 22,423-seat stadium has left a lasting impact on St. Louis and catalyzed efforts to revitalize Downtown West, with over $820 million invested into the city’s revival.
