Melvin Price Locks & Dam Main Lock Overlook Alterations Wins Quality Concrete Award
Award recognizes member firms who demonstrate outstanding concrete work
Alberici is proud to announce that our Melvin Price Locks & Dam Main Lock Overlook Alterations project has been awarded a Quality Concrete Award by the Concrete Council.
We embraced the multi-dimensional challenge presented by the major alterations of two overlook buildings at the Melvin Price Locks & Dam. We faced tight constraints, including a narrow three-month winter lock closure window.
Our objective was to renovate reinforced concrete structures situated above critical lift gate machinery, requiring complex design solutions such as shifting the building face back by 4.5 feet to accommodate the removal and replacement of newly fabricated lift gates.
Despite these challenges, our team completed significant concrete demolition, removal, and relocation with precision and expertise, working primarily from barge-based floating plants due to site limitations. Additionally, the project achieved a historic milestone by seamlessly integrating the removal and replacement of lift gates, a first for the 34-year-old lock complex.
The Quality Concrete Award, awarded by the Concrete Council, recognizes member firms who demonstrate outstanding concrete work in the St. Louis area. We are honored to receive this award, which serves as a testament to the dedication and craftsmanship of our project team.
