  • Project Size:550,000 square feet

Alberici constructed a new confectionary  plant in Monterrey, Mexico, for The Hershey Company. Alberici as design-builder teamed with SSOE to complete the project on time and under budget.

The team provided a full array of preconstruction services including scheduling, estimating, cost modeling and value engineering. An Alberici-led value engineering process identified numerous cost-saving ideas, resulting in a savings of $3.5 million for Hershey.

The project included retrofitting an existing bread plant, adding 300,000 square feet of new process and packaging space. The team also built a new 85,000-square-foot warehouse and a cafeteria.

The team specified, purchased and installed all utility equipment including five chillers, two 400-horsepower boilers and 43 air handling units. Additional infrastructure support systems designed and managed by the Alberici team included  a reverse osmosis water treatment system, 115kW switchgear and a wastewater treatment plant.

Through effective collaboration and management, the project remained on schedule. The team remained flexible, absorbing several major scope changes after construction had started, such as the addition of a 24,800-square-foot mezzanine.
