Tower Automotive 05 ND Frame Assembly Line
The Paslin Company at Tower Automotive awarded Alberici Constructors the bid for the 05 ND Assembly Line Project. The project involved converting an existing assembly line in order to manufacture a new frame style for the Dodge Durango.
The conversion included installing new tooling into the existing assembly line, refurbishing and upgrading existing tooling in addition to the demolition of select tooling.
In order to integrate the new tooling, much of the engineering was done spontaneously. Alberici also performed “kit work” in which existing tooling was retro-fitted to handle the new product, a complex operation where the changes are made on the production floor rather than in the build shop.
Another challenge Alberici faced was completing the work while the plant was still in production. The assembly line Alberici performed work on represented half of the plant’s production capability and the work space in this area was limited.
Despite the challenges, Alberici lived up to the reputation it has built in the tooling industry as a world class tooling installation contractor. This complex project required a company with extensive experience, exceptional skills and innovative thinking. As always, Alberici was able to deliver an on-time, quality project.
