Alberici Constructors was selected as construction manager for this project after an intense competition with six other St. Louis-area construction firms.  Its unique design included more than $8 million of new exhibit construction and featured the first Omni-Max Theater in St. Louis and the State of Missouri.  The new building is connected with the existing Planetarium by a 750-foot enclosed and air-conditioned pedestrian bridge that spans Highway 40/Interstate 64 and connects to a tunnel.  The new bridge, fabricated by Hillsdale Fabricators, spans the highway without the use of a center pylon.
