Platte West Water Treatment Plant

In June 2005, the Metropolitan Utilities District Board of Directors unanimously approved Alberici Constructors as the General Contractor to build their new “green field” 104 million-gallon-per-day Platte West Water Treatment Plant located at 216th and “Q” Streets in Omaha, Nebraska - culminating a vision that started over three decades ago.

This mammoth project, enclosing a total of 630,511 sq. ft., will employ over 450 craft personnel during peak construction.  This $236 million project is part of an overall $310 million plan that includes, not only the water treatment plant, but a well-field consisting of 42 gravel-packed wells approximately 100' in depth spread over 1,900 acres of land.  This new state-of-the-art facility will increase MUD's treatment capacity by 40% while providing Omaha's drinking water needs for the next 50 years.

Major components include the main water treatment facilities, 15 million-gallon underground disinfection reservoir, high service/backwash pump station, gravity thickeners, residuals processing building, garage, residuals/materials storage, generator building, entrance security station, surge control station, and miscellaneous structures, appurtenant site piping, site work, utilities and related improvements.

Equipment installed in the plant include vacuum cleaning system, solids collecting sedimentation and thickening equipment, plate type filter presses, chemical mixing and injection equipment, chlorine equipment including gas scrubber systems, vibrating bin activators, gravity filters including wash troughs, under-drains, filter media, acid scrubber system, dust collectors, pneumatic lime conveyance system, and various product bins and chutes.

This project was tailor-made for Alberici Constructors.  One of the strengths Alberici brought to the project, is our ability to bond the entire project - an advantage few construction companies in the United States can match.  Alberici's expertise, experience and commitment to excellence on high-profile projects similar to this one has propelled Alberici to become an industry leader in the water/wastewater market.
