Mena Medical - Hospital Expansion
The Mena Medical Center Expansion included admitting, imaging, surgery, emergency room additions, a lobby, and a women’s center.
When building community hospitals, Alberici Healthcare Constructors utilizes value engineering to find the balance between a new, modern facility and what could be construed as overly extravagant in the eyes of the community. In the case of the Mena Medical Center Expansion, Alberici identified $550,000 of potential savings items, of which $493,000 were implemented prior to bidding, including $170,000 saved on site/civil items. Another $103,000 in savings resulted postbid, based upon Alberici’s cooperation and coordination with subcontractors.
Alberici used its knowledge of Community Hospital design which allowed us to recognize over-designs on the part of the design team. Based on this knowledge we were able to make the appropriate suggestions to the owner. As an advocate for the owner, Alberici provided options and allowed the owner to make educated decisions rather than accepting the engineer’s opinion.
