Little Blue Valley Sewer District Atherton Wastewater Treatment Plant
Alberici Constructors was selected to provide $73 million of improvements and upgrades to the Atherton Wastewater Treatment Plant. The improvements and upgrades will allow the plant to increase its capacity from 40mgd to 52mgd and eliminate a major source of odor for the surrounding communities.
A major challenge on the project is constructing while the plant remains in full operation. The transition from the existing water/sewage service lines to the new system must be done without shutting down the plant's ability to process sewage from the communities it serves.
To meet demanding schedule requirements Alberici constructed many of the major concrete structures through the winter months of 2003-04. This required careful selection of form systems and concrete placement methods to be sure they were most appropriate for cold weather.
