Busch Stadium - St. Louis Cardinals - Steel Fabrication and Erection

Alberici was awarded a contract to furnish and install structural and miscellaneous steel for the New Busch Stadium project.  In addition to the steel components, Alberici installed the pre-cast concrete and panelized brick system for the building exterior.  The new 1,300,000 SF baseball facility seats 42,500 and has 90 suites. 

The scope of work consisted of the fabrication of  :

• the Light Tower columns/bents (W44x262 & 335);
• the light tower lighting frames, light tower arched trusses (radiuses at the bottom chords);
• sunscreen level arched trusses (radiuses at the bottom chords), roof members (purlins) and sunscreen level cantilever box trusses that form the sunscreen over the upper-most seating level;
• all raked trusses at the Loge and Terrace levels;
• tapered floor trusses at the Loge and Terrace levels;
• floor trusses (WT chords) under the precast seating at the Loge and Terrace levels over 10'-0 wide; 23'x 30' tube frame for one of the towers;
• two 100' long 12" pipe box trusses with radii, which is a replica of the historical Eads Bridge in St. Louis.

Hillsdale Fabricators in conjunction with Hirschfeld Steel, detailed 9,500 tons of steel and fabricated 9,500 tons which represented approximately 488 truck loads.  Steel was delivered daily as needed to accommodate the tight project site which allowed limited laydown area. The stadium construction project began in January of 2004 and opened for the home opener in April of 2006.  The field dimensions are 336 feet down the left-field line, 390 in the left-field power alley, 400 in center field, 390 in the right-field power alley and 335 to the right-field foul pole.
