Amanda Powell – Legal Analyst for Alberici Group
What started as summer employment ultimately became Amanda’s career. She was on summer break during her second year in college and was searching for temporary employment. “I found two jobs at the same time,” remarks Amanda. “I worked at Alberici during the day and waitressed at a country club on evenings and weekends.” Amanda was eventually offered a full-time position in the Legal Department.
Before she had even applied for the position, she knew the perception of Alberici in the public eye was of a great company. She puts her Communications degree to use every workday. “I always wanted to be a writer of some sort, and my grandfather, as long as I can remember, has always told me I should be a lawyer,” Amanda said. “Enjoying writing and reading and working in the legal department is the perfect fit for me.”
Currently, Amanda is pursuing her law degree.
Emily Korsch – Project Specialist for Vertegy, An Alberici Enterprise
Emily joined Alberici in 2006 after graduating from Washington University in St. Louis. After completing the company’s training program for incoming engineers, Emily went to work on the Holcim Ste. Genevieve project. There, she was responsible for coordinating the structural steel purchase orders for the largest single kiln cement facility in the world. “Working at Holcim made me really appreciate Alberici,” Emily said. “There were a lot of really high caliber people on the jobsite. The level of thoroughness, a strong commitment to the work—Alberici has a great work culture.”
Born and raised in Curitiba Brazil, Leticia experienced life in a city that was later recognized as one of the “15 Greenest Cities in the World”. This fact is certainly fitting with Leticia’s LEED AP credentials.
Ken’s career in construction started at an early age, performing trade work while homebuilding with his father. After finishing his degree in Civil Engineering from Purdue University, Ken began his professional career in Construction Management. Three years ago, Ken joined Alberici. Since then he has had significant roles on major projects and is currently serving as Assistant Project Manager on the Basin Electric, Leland Olds WFGD project where he is noted for his strong ability to break issues down into manageable pieces and navigate to a solution accordingly.
One of Earl’s passions is learning. So, when an acquaintance informed him that Alberici was hiring, he did his homework to learn about what opportunities existed within the company. Earl explains, “I was impressed with what I found. I made the decision to apply because I knew I would have the opportunity to work on many different projects and this would help me grow and develop as a professional.” Earl joined Alberici as a project engineer in 2005 and is currently an assistant project manager working on the Ameren Coffeen Power Plant project.
Earl obtained his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech. While completing his degree, he had the opportunity to study abroad in France. While there, he visited Spain, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Holland, and the Czech Republic. Recently, Earl and his wife spent their honeymoon in Spain.
Although Earl’s dream job is playing professional soccer in Europe, he likes his career in construction. He says, “I get to interact with many different people. I can visually see the progress being made on a daily basis; no two construction projects are exactly the same so you are constantly being challenged.” Earl is looking forward to gaining more experience in the field and taking on more responsibility. One day he hopes to work on the other end of business to see things from the start of obtaining the contracts.
Appreciating the opportunity he spent as a Big Brother, involved with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, Earl shares that he would like to leave a legacy of helping those who are in need and would like to be remembered as hardworking, generous and fair.
Caitlin Huber – Project Engineer for Alberici Constructors, Inc
“I love the people I work with! They make coming to work everyday not like work.” That is how Caitlin describes her experience working at Alberici. She determined during the interview for an internship that she loved Alberici. Caitlin explains, “The fact that they were a large company all over the United States and more, but as the same time close-knit made my decision obvious.”
Interestingly, Caitlin was midway through her junior year in college pursuing a finance degree when the construction bug bit. She decided that she no longer wanted to work in finance like her dad and uncle, and she didn’t want to be stuck at a desk. Caitlin wanted something more hands on and blueprint reading grabbed her attention. When her counselor suggested the construction industry, the rest was history. Caitlin obtained her B.A. in Construction Management from Southeast Missouri State.
About herself, Caitlin mentions, “I love my family and friends, love to travel, reading, working out and a good sale!” Her dream job would be traveling the world. Caitlin’s love for travel fits well with her career in construction. After completing Alberici’s on the job training for project engineers in St. Louis, Caitlin was assigned to work out of the Atlanta office supporting three water treatment projects. And, of course, Caitlin loves Atlanta and enjoying her new surroundings with Gracie, her 10-month old Maltese.
Lyndsey Randolph – Staff Accountant
Although she has only been with Alberici since 2005, the company has been a part of her life for much longer. Lyndsey’s father, Dan, has worked for Alberici as a project manager since 1979. “I was brought up being a part of Alberici, either through family events or Saturday morning meetings in the office,” she said.
Even after graduation, Lyndsey is still passionate about education. “A strong education allows us to do anything we put our minds to,” she said. “I believe that everyone should take the opportunity to attend classes when possible.” This same belief in the potential of a good education has motivated Lyndsey to pursue a Master’s degree in Business Administration at Webster University in St. Louis. Her goal is to use her Master’s to drive her career to a higher level with greater leadership. “Having an advanced degree to support my efforts,” Lyndsey said, “is invaluable.”
Brad Johnson – Senior Employment Resources Generalist for Alberici Group
Brad interacts with all levels of Alberici employees, from interns and field employees to corporate executives. He sees the diverse makeup of employees as a real asset to the company. “The people here bring many diverse experiences, it makes Alberici an extremely well-rounded company,” Brad said. “Because of these varying past experiences, it allows Alberici to strengthen and redevelop our processes […] it’s the process of continuous improvement.”
Brad’s life outside Alberici is filled with sports and other outside activities. He is on a number of sports teams including hockey, soccer, volleyball, softball and golf. Brad spends his family vacations waterskiing and wakeboarding at Lake Norfork in Arkansas every year. His love of sports blends with community service through his volunteer work for the Special Olympics. One day, Brad would like to run clinics for children with disabilities.
Brad brings that same competitive nature to his work. He enjoys the everyday challenges at work and as a result has seen his role in the company significantly expand over the past year and a half. “They will keep giving an employee new and increasingly difficult tasks until you tell them to stop,” Brad jokes. “I really enjoy how no two days are alike.”
Sherry Shaw – Senior Accountant for Alberici Group
Sherry didn’t start off pursuing a career in construction. As a young girl, she would’ve told anyone her ambition was to be a teacher or a veterinarian. When Sherry went to college though her interests shifted towards business and eventually accounting. Sherry moved a lot growing up but most of of her childhood was spent at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. She enjoyed the summers and the relaxed pace that life at the Lake offered. After college she knew she had to leave the Lake in order to pursue a career. Upon receiving her Business Administration degree, she began the city and job search. When she decided on St. Louis Alberici was her first choice. Initially, after interviewing and getting a better idea of the complexity of construction accounting Sherry was a little intimidated. “I remember being told it was the most intricate type of accounting,” she said, “but I viewed it as an opportunity to take on a greater challenge and learn something new.”
Now a St. Louis local, Sherry enjoys the convenience and culture available in the city and especially the people she works with. “It’s like a second family for me since I don’t have family here.” Sherry advises others to not let a lack of experience in the construction industry deter them from pursuing a career at Alberici. “Everyone here is very helpful and willing to assist newcomers in learning the ropes and developing their knowledge. Constantly learning something new at Alberici keeps me interested and challenged.”
