Alberici Constructors has been continuously active in the construction market in México for almost two decades. Throughout that time, we have operated either through 100% ownership of a Mexican company or through a joint venture. During the last 10 years, we have performed and managed approximately USD $400 million of construction in many of Mexico’s different states.
Because México has been such an important geographic market for Alberici Constructors, we have recently undertaken a strategic initiative to make México an even larger part of Alberici Constructors in the years ahead. Alberici Constructors’ plan for México mirrors the business plan of our entire company, focusing on fewer, larger projects and for only a handful of customers. This approach reflects our strong belief that a tight focus enables us to do a better job for our clients, especially those clients needing a general contractor with the expertise constructing and/or managing mid-size $25 - $250 million USD projects.
Clients benefit from our tighter focus in ways which distinguishes Alberici from our competitors. Our operations people become very engaged in our projects which benefit from a very deep, highly specialized construction know-how that draws on the resources of our entire company. Also, by focusing on far fewer projects, we’re able to offer a much more comprehensive capability spanning buildings and process at the lowest possible cost.
Alberici achieves this lower overhead cost by utilizing local offices in a different manner from many other contractors. In addition to our legal address in Guadalajara, from which we manage the administration of our Mexico operations, ours are essentially project offices supported by very experienced people who have worked for us for years in México. But these people are just one part of a broader team that we assemble from across our company specific to the given project.
This approach assures that our people in México are not working in a silo. They are an integral part of the project teams we assemble. This assures the requisite engagement, support and expertise of our company’s entire bench strength of construction operations specialists as appropriate to the sector and project.
Because companies doing business in Mexico are required to have a country-specific incorporated company in place, Hillsdale Construcciones SA de CV. was established as Alberici’s official “contracting entity” for the work we perform in México. Hillsdale Construcciones is a wholly-owned (100%) subsidiary of Alberici Constructors, Inc., which is headquartered in St. Louis, MO.
Like all of Alberici’s subsidiary companies, all work performed by Hillsdale Construcciones has the full support of our company. Many times this support comes in the form of either a parent company guarantee or performance and payment bonds underwritten by the extraordinary balance sheet of Alberici Corporation and our surety, Travelers, with whom we have enjoyed a ninety-year relationship.
Over the years, Alberici Constructors has successfully served the automotive, food and beverage, light industrial and building markets in Mexico. In addition to our strong presence in these markets, we will also be expanding into the water/wastewater energy and cement sectors so that the work we do in México is fully aligned with our work across North America.
